Northbrook, IL, March 27, 2019 – The enhanced API, SecureLink 2.0, is an expansion of Digital Check’s network protocol that contains enhanced functionality and also adds support for certain SmartSource check scanners. It represents a major update to the original SecureLink by Digital Check® – allowing the system to be loaded internally on select check scanners, as well as externally as a standalone network device.
SecureLink 2.0 allows a user-specific application to address a scanner from any device on a network, including PCs, handheld devices, and touchscreens. SecureLink is used by financial institutions and corporations around the world to operate check scanners in conjunction with thin-client teller workstations, virtual desktop environments, and even standalone kiosks.
The new API will allow SmartSource Expert Elite and Expert Micro Elite scanners using SecureLink 2.0 to be operated using a standard web browser-based or conventional application. They will also share a common protocol with CheXpress and TellerScan devices that are connected to a standalone SecureLink network device. Because SecureLink uses a simplified command set, it also reduces the time needed for software providers to develop new or integrate existing applications.
By incorporating an onboard CPU and memory into the scanner, SecureLink allows the scanner to handle key operations such as image processing and compression, reducing bandwidth requirements on the network.
“SecureLink 2.0 brings significant technical improvements to our networking platform, including an expanded lineup of compatible scanners, and additional features for those already supported,” said John Wezner, Digital Check’s director of product marketing. “Our company has offered various forms of networked scanning technology for well over a decade, and this latest update reaffirms our commitment to developing the best systems available on the market.”
The update also contains several functional and security improvements for SmartSource scanners, including support for SSL certificates, browser-based access to hardware settings, and improved control over resource sharing on a network. Full-color ID card scanning becomes available on networked SmartSource Expert Elite and Expert Micro Elite scanners, as well as on the TellerScan TS500.
SecureLink 2.0 is available effective immediately on supported SmartSource scanners, and on the standalone SecureLink device. SecureLink 1.0 and the SmartSource DeviceSuite API will both continue to be available and fully supported.
