- A little bit of Check 21 technology is helping North Island Financial Credit Union help one of its particularly special members help families get through some trying times. The Ronald McDonald House at Rady’s Children Hospital in San Diego is using a Digital Check TellerScan 230 at its new facility to capture donations and other checks as images and send them to the $1.5 billion credit union for processing.

- Fifth Third Bank Expands Footprint With Web-Based RDC Offering
- By shifting to a thin-client remote deposit capture (RDC) offering, Fifth Third Bank has been able to accelerate efforts to grow deposits and expand its geographic footprint. Remote deposit capture (RDC) technology has been a part of Fifth Third Bank's customer deposit acquisition strategy since 2005. A more recent effort, however, enabled the Cincinnati-based bank to deliver an RDC capability that better meets the needs of its commercial clients and, as a result, has put Fifth Third in a better position to expand its footprint, according to Matt Jarboe, the bank's VP and senior product manager.

- The cost of running checks to the bank for deposit is not cheap. Costs associated with time out of the office, theft, fraud, desk float and manual data entry definitely affect a dental practice’s bottom line.
Adopting remote deposit capture (RDC) into a dental practice to electronically deposit checks eliminates these costs and reduces check-handling concerns. RDC refers to the ability to scan checks and deposit them electronically in a bank account. This process was made legal in 2004 when Congress passed the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act (Check21).
Trips to the bank are no longer needed to deposit valuable checks. Check21 technology, now widely used by financial institutions and small businesses, can be easily implemented in a dental office with little IT assistance to save time and cut costs.

- The world of small business remote deposit capture has been a boon for those who have jumped on the wave. According to Celent, there are nearly 15 million small businesses in the market for an RDC solution, and five million will become adopters over the next five years. Furthermore, by year's end more than 7,200 financial institutions will have an RDC solution, up from 3,800 at the end of last year.
In late August, Digital Check Corp. began shipping its first batch of single-feed check scanner CheXpress CX30, its first mass-market offering. Celent senior analyst Bob Meara says the device is a perfect machine at the perfect time.
